4 YEAR COLLEGES
CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY
All of the 22 colleges in the CSU system use the same application called Cal State Apply.
Students can apply to a CSU if they have completed all of the requirements on the A-G list and they have a 2.5 GPA. Fresno State has reduced its GPA requirement to a 2.0 as long as all A-G requirements are met. The Cal State Apply application is open from October 1 - December 2.
Fresno State is our local CSU and provides us with application and admissions assistance throughout the year.
Admissions requirements and acceptance rates vary from school to school. The CSU is no longer requiring the SAT or ACT, students will be admitted based on GPA only. Students can apply during our application workshops being offered throughout October and November.
UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA
All 9 University of California campuses use the same application. Students can apply to a UC if they have completed all of the requirement on the A-G list and they have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA in those classes.
The UC Application requires students to write 4 short responses called Personal Insight Questions.
For some guidance on writing your Personal Insight Questions, refer here: UC-PIQ Tips.
We strongly recommend students start working on those NOW. UC Admissions is a highly competitive process and admitted students usually exceed the minimum application requirements. The UC is no longer requiring an SAT or ACT score.
They will use the other components of their application to determine admission. UC eligible students are invited to attend workshops to assist them through the application process.
OTHER COLLEGES If you are considering applying to other colleges within California or out of state, please consult the college website for specific application instructions. All colleges differ on what is required and their deadlines.
Many colleges use www.commonapp.org to college student applications. Students can receive help with Common App or other applications by contacting Mrs. Isaac.
